Looking for a new frying pan? Then you’ve probably come across the term PFAS. In this article, you’ll learn what PFAS are, why they’re used in pans, what’s known about the health risks and how to recognise a PFAS-free pan.
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of man-made chemicals. They repel water, grease and dirt, which is why they’re used in many products. Because they barely break down in the environment or the body, they’re often called “forever chemicals”.

Classic non-stick coatings are made from PTFE, a substance that falls under PFAS. PTFE stops food from sticking and makes the pan easy to clean.
